Professor Harold Ellis

Professor Harold Ellis (born 13th January 1926) is Emeritus Professor of Surgery in the University of London and a professor in the Department of Anatomy & Human Sciences at the King’s College London School of Medicine.

He is one of the most notable British surgeons of the past fifty years, renowned both for his inspirational teaching and past positions as Vice-President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal Society of Medicine as well as President of the British Association of Surgical Oncology.

 

Mr Panjak Chandak

Mr Pankaj Chandak is an SpR in Multi-Organ Transplant Surgery in the London Deanery and is currently working at Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Great Ormond Street Hospitals.

Having qualified from GKT School of Medicine, he was Anatomy Demonstrator under the tutelage of Professor Harold Ellis, winning the SMEC Award for Best Demonstrator and is currently a member of the Teaching Faculty of Surgical Anatomy at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Mr Pankaj Chandak was awarded the Royal Society of Medicine Adrian Tanner Prize and is also a Hunterian Scholar. In 2014, he delivered the Inaugural KCL Joseph Lister Lecture at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was awarded the Royal College of Surgeons of England / Johnson and Johnson, Joseph Lister Medal and Prize. His interests include paediatric transplantation, history of medicine and clinical teaching. He is part of the KCL Surgical Society Alumni and a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society.

 

Professor Nizam Mamode

Professor Nizam Mamode is a Consultant Transplant Surgeon at Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. He is also a Reader in Transplant Surgery at King's College.

He trained in the West of Scotland and had a short period in the transplant unit in Minnesota. He has

published over 50 papers and holds 2 NIHR grants for large mutlicentre trials. His research interests include

antibody incompatible transplantation, minimally invasive donor nephrectomy and transplantation, B cell

depletion, and the psychosocial aspects of living donation. He supervises 4 PhD students, acts as

clinical adviser and runs a special study module in transplantation. He is a member of the British Transplant

Society  Council, and an executive member of EKITA, the kidney section of the European Society of

Transplantation. He is a specialist adviser to NICE, and a member of the Clinical Reference Group on

Transplantation, which provides advice to NHS  England. He also chairs the NHS Blood and Transplant Group

on Higher Immune Risk patients. 

He has previously negotiated on new contracts for both junior and senior doctors on behalf of the BMA.
